Wir ermöglichen den Blick über den Tellerrand auch ohne stundenlang durch Social Media scrollen zu müssen. Monatlich veröffentlichen wir einen kurzen Newsletter, in dem die wichtigsten Ereignisse in der Welt des Roundnets in Schlagzeilen zusammengefasst werden. Europameisterschaft in Irland
Nach zwei Jahren ohne europäische Wettbewerbe konnte am Wochenende des 06./07. August endlich das Highlight der EURA Tour Series stattfinden. Roundnet Ireland hat die europäische Roundnet Community auf eine professionelle Anlage in Limerick eingeladen. Wie bei den meisten Turnieren der EURA Tour Series ist der erwartete Ansturm auf die Anmeldeplätze ausgeblieben. Ursprünglich war eine “closed division” geplant, für die man sich auf internationalen Turnieren qualifizieren konnte. Diese wurde auf Grund der geringeren Teilnehmerzahl als erwartet, mit der Open Division zusammengelegt.
Das Damenturnier dominierten Laura Kunzelmann und Julia Stadler. Die deutsch-schweizerische Kombination hat im gesamten Turnier nicht nur keinen Satz abgegeben, sondern auch durchschnittlich jeden Satz mit einer Differenz von etwa 11 Punkten beendet. Der zweite Platz ging an Alexa Peusch und Saskia Benter, ebenfalls beide aus Deutschland. Im Spiel um den dritten Platz setzte sich das österreichische Team “tiramisu” (Megan Leybourne und Daniela Kadlec) gegen das französische Team “Puces&dives” (Inès Paysan und Natacha Alt) durch.
Bei den Herren sind in den beiden Halbfinals wohl die momentan vier besten europäischen Teams aufeinander getroffen. Beide Finalspiele waren umkämpft und gingen in den dritten Satz. Letztlich musste sich das deutsche Team Eisenträger/Siemer, das viele vorher als Favoriten gehandelt haben, gegen den bis dahin amtierenden Europameister “RCG Powerline” (Benjamin Bachler und Nelson Dziruni) geschlagen geben. Im anderen Halbfinale gewann das französische Team “Pour Combien?” (Dorian Améziane und Robin Florinda) gegen die “Hustling Brothers” (Levi Vandaele und Yosha Vandaele) aus Belgien. Im Finale konnten Benni und Nelson beweisen, dass sie wieder an der Spitze des europäischen Roundnets sind. Auch wenn sich der Sport Roundnet von 2019 bis 2022 stark gewandelt hat, konnte sich ihre verteidigungsstarke Spielweise erneut durchsetzen und den Titel sichern. Das Spiel um Platz drei gewannen Eisenträger/Siemer.
Auch im Mixed konnten wieder Medaillen nach Deutschland geholt werden. Ebenfalls mit einer sehr dominanten Leistung und ohne verlorenen Satz gewannen Paul Siemer und Alexa Peusch aus Deutschland das Turnier. Im Finale traf Paul auf seinen Teampartner Lukas Eisenträger, der sich zusammen mit Julia Stadler den zweiten Platz sichern konnte. Der dritte Platz ging wieder nach Österreich. Nelson Dziruni und Megan Leybourne konnten das Spiel um Platz drei gegen die Franzosen Robin Florinda und Inés Paysan gewinnen.
STS Major in Columbus
Beim letzten “Major” Turnier der STS (Spikeball Tour Series) in Columbus (USA) haben sich fast alle us-amerikanischen Pro Teams eingefunden. Auch die Vize-Europameister “Pour Combien?” und einige kanadische Teams komplettieren das stark besetzte Teilnehmerfeld.
Bei den Damen gab es keine großen Überraschungen. Wie bereits in der gesamten Saison dominierten die “Twinz” das Turnier, wenn auch die Spiele knapper werden. Im Halbfinale mussten sie einen Satz an “Biceptual” abgeben. Zweiter Platz wurde “Graham/Rogers”, die diese Saison durchgehend Podiumsplätze erreichen konnten. Der Turniersieg blieb diese Saison aber bisher aus. Im Spiel um Platz drei setzte sich das Team “KickStart” durch.
Im Herrenturnier gab es ab dem Viertelfinale sehr enge Spiele. Bis auf “Switch Hit”, die “Swervie” in zwei Sätzen bis 30 besiegen konnten, gingen alle Begegnungen in den dritten Satz. Sehr spannend war auch die Partie von “Double Clutch” gegen das Mashup Team von Addison Powers und Gabe Finocchi. Erst im dritten Satz mit einem Punktestand von 47 zu 45 konnte der amtierende US-Champion das Spiel für sich entscheiden. Das französische Team “Pour Combien” musste sich im Achtelfinale gegen “Kingdom Come” geschlagen geben, nachdem sie sich zuvor in einem Spiel mit vielen Rallies gegen das kanadische Team “Swamp Donkeys” durchgesetzt hatten. In einem recht deutlichen Finale gewannen letztlich “Double Clutch” gegen Switch Hit. “Assistive Touch”, auch als einer der Favoriten für dieses Turnier gehandelt, erreichte den vierten Platz, nach einem verlorenen Spiel um Platz drei gegen “Kingdom Come”.
STS Challenger in Gent
Zum Abschluss des Monats und zur Vorbereitung auf die Weltmeisterschaft hat sich die europäische Community zu einem dritten großen internationalen Turnier im August versammelt.
In einem sehr spannenden und umkämpften Finale haben sich erneut Laura und Levke als “Lauke423” im dritten Satz gegen das “screamteam” (Tina Gulden und Julia Stadler) durchgesetzt. Das Spiel um Platz drei gewann das österreichische Topteam “tiramisu” gegen das deutsch-französische Mashup Team um Alexa Peusch und Natacha Alt. Alle Teams, die einen Podiumsplatz erreichten, sind als Teams bei der Weltmeisterschaft vertreten. Dies gibt schon mal einen Ausblick auf das, was in Belgien zu erwarten ist.
Etienne Cote und Vincent Mathieu, beide aus Kanada, konnten das Turnier bei den Herren gewinnen. Mit den wohl besten Aufschlägen, die es bisher auf einem europäischen Turnier gegeben hat, gewannen sie gegen die Europameister Benni und Nelson. Im belgischen Duell um den dritten Platz setzten sich die “Hustling Brothers” durch, die im Halbfinale gegen die Kanadier immerhin einen Satz gewinnen konnten.
Im Mixed Turnier gab es einige neue Teamkombinationen. Laura Kunzelmann sichert sich, nachdem sie schon bei den Damen den ersten Platz ereichten, erneut den Doppelsieg. Im Mixed spielte sie zusammen mit dem deutschen Nationalspieler Mario Bürkle. Markus Anderle und Megan Leybourne sicherten sich den zweiten Platz und die schwedisch-deutsche Co-Produktion aus Esaja Ekman und Nora Haas konnte Bronze holen.

Bamball und Spikeball veröffentlichen neue Sets
Die deutsche Marke Bamball hat ein neues Pro Set auf den Markt gebracht. In der Turnieredition des Sets sind neu entwickelte Bälle, Legs und Rims enthalten. Zusätzlich zum Netz, wird ein wasserdichter Tragesack mitgeliefert. Das neu entworfene Netz scheint eine erhebliche Aufwertung zu dem bisherigen Bamball Netz zu sein. Ob sich das Netz gegen den aktuellen Marktführer als Turniernetz durchsetzen kann, bleibt abzuwarten.
Auch besagter Marktführer hat ein neues Set in Aussicht gestellt. Auf dem us-amerikanischen Sportsender ESPN 2 wird eine Sendung laufen, wo verschiedene europäische Spitzenspieler einen Prototypen des neuen Netzes ausprobiert haben.

European Championship in Ireland
After two years without European competitions, the highlight of the EURA Tour Series could finally take place on the weekend of August 06-07. Roundnet Ireland invited the European Roundnet community to a professional venue in Limerick. As with most EURA Tour Series tournaments, the expected rush for registration spots didn’t take place. Originally a „closed division“ was planned, for which one could qualify on international tournaments. Due to the lower number of participants than expected, this division was merged with the Open Division.
The women’s tournament was dominated by Laura Kunzelmann and Julia Stadler. The German-Swiss combination not only did not drop a set in the entire tournament, but also finished each set with an average difference of about 11 points. Second place went to Alexa Peusch and Saskia Benter, both from Germany. In the third place match, the Austrian team „tiramisu“ (Megan Leybourne and Daniela Kadlec) beat the French team „Puces&dives“ (Inès Paysan and Natacha Alt).
In the men’s singles, the two semifinals probably brought together the four best European teams at the moment. Both finals were hard-fought and went into the third set. In the end, the German team Eisenträger/Siemer, which many had previously considered the favorites, had to admit defeat to the reigning European champions „RCG Powerline“ (Benjamin Bachler and Nelson Dziruni). In the other semi-final, the French team „Pour Combien?“ (Dorian Améziane and Robin Florinda) won against the „Hustling Brothers“ (Levi Vandaele and Yosha Vandaele) from Belgium. In the final Benni and Nelson could prove that they are again at the top of the European Roundnet. Even though the sport of Roundnet has changed a lot from 2019 to 2022, their defensively strong play was once again able to prevail and secure the title. The match for third place was won by Eisenträger/Siemer.
Medals were also brought back to Germany in the mixed. Also with a very dominant performance and without losing a set, Paul Siemer and Alexa Peusch from Germany won the tournament. In the final Paul met his team partner Lukas Eisenträger, who together with Julia Stadler could secure the second place. Third place again went to Austria. Nelson Dziruni and Megan Leybourne won the third place match against Robin Florinda and Inés Paysan from France.

STS Major in Columbus
At the last „Major“ tournament of the STS (Spikeball Tour Series) in Columbus (USA) almost all us-American Pro Teams showed up. Also the Vice European Champions „Pour Combien?“ and some Canadian teams completed the strong field of participants.
There were no big surprises in the women’s competition. As in the whole season, the „Twinz“ dominated the tournament, even if the matches were closer. In the semifinals they had to give up one set to „Biceptual“. Second place went to „Graham/Rogers“, who have consistently managed podium finishes this season. However, they have not won a tournament so far this season. In the match for third place, the team „KickStart“ prevailed.
In the men’s tournament, there were very close games from the quarterfinals on. Except for „Switch Hit“, who defeated „Swervie“ in two sets to 30, all matches went to the third set. Also very tense was the match of „Double Clutch“ against the mashup team of Addison Powers and Gabe Finocchi. Only in the third set with a score of 47 to 45 the reigning US champion could win the match. The French team „Pour Combien“ had to admit defeat to „Kingdom Come“ in the round of 16, after they had previously prevailed over the Canadian team „Swamp Donkeys“ in a match with many rallies. In a quite clear final, „Double Clutch“ finally won against Switch Hit. „Assistive Touch“, also considered as one of the favorites for this tournament, finished in fourth place after losing a third place match to „Kingdom Come“.
STS Challenger in Ghent
To close out the month and prepare for the World Championships, the European community gathered for a third major international tournament in August.
In a very exciting and tight final, Laura and Levke as „Lauke423“ won again in the third set against the „screamteam“ (Tina Gulden and Julia Stadler). The match for third place was won by the Austrian top team „tiramisu“ against the German-French mashup team of Alexa Peusch and Natacha Alt. All teams that reached a podium place are represented as teams at the World Championship. This already gives a preview of what to expect in Belgium.
Etienne Cote and Vincent Mathieu, both from Canada, won the men’s tournament. With probably the best serves ever at a European tournament, they won against the European champions Benni and Nelson. In the Belgian battle for the third place the „Hustling Brothers“ prevailed, who could win at least one set against the Canadians in the semifinals.
In the mixed tournament there were some new team combinations. Laura Kunzelmann secured again the double victory after she could already make the first place in the women’s competition. In mixed she played together with the German national player Mario Bürkle. Markus Anderle and Megan Leybourne secured second place and the Swedish-German co-production of Esaja Ekman and Nora Haas took bronze.
Bamball and Spikeball release new sets
German brand Bamball has launched a new Pro Set. The tournament edition of the set includes newly developed balls, Legs and Rims. In addition to the net, a waterproof carry bag is included. The newly designed net seems to be a significant upgrade to the previous Bamball net. It remains to be seen if the net can hold its own against the current market leader as a tournament net.
The said market leader has also announced a new set. On the us sports channel ESPN 2 there will be a broadcast where various top European players have tried out a prototype of the new net.
