Dear Roundnet community,
a few days ago we received the news from the Board of the International Roundnet Federtation (IRF), that Roundnet Germany has been awarded the highest possible membership status with „full membership“. We are proud that our and your work for the development of our sport in recent years continues to stand out!
In the past six months, we have raised some critical questions about the democratic structure in the IRF and published them in various statements. We are happy that during the 1st meeting of all NGBs on 8 March, many important steps were presented by the IRF Board that go in the right direction to give every Roundnet country equal voting rights. Many questions from representatives from all over the world showed the necessity of these changes and made it clear that in a world federation there is no way around democratic participation.
Despite the many and good intentions for change on the part of the board in the direction of democratic structures, from our point of view the point of independence within the current board to the company Spikeball Inc. could not yet be sufficiently credibly conveyed. A detailed explanation of the risks of such a dependency (at least two current board members are employees of the company Spikeball Inc.) can be found in our last statement.
According to the IRF board’s own statement, each member signed a „letter of independence“, but the IRF’s costs to date have been covered by start-up funding/donations from Spikeball Inc.
In the meeting, changes in the statutes and the composition of the thematic committees were also announced within a few weeks, which unfortunately have not yet been implemented. We are curious about the information to come and look forward to being able to continue to accompany the development of an independent and democratic world federation. As soon as the structures for co-determination via the committees have been created, we will be happy to actively accompany the process with our large team.
Despite the „full membership“ status and more than half a year after the announcement of the IRF, we will continue to observe developments and critically question them if necessary. We welcome any nation that supports the necessary and noble project of building the IRF, but at the same time stands up for democratic structures and independence.

Liebe Roundnet-Gemeinde,
vor einigen Tagen hat uns die Nachricht des Vorstands der International Roundnet Federation (IRF) erreicht, dass Roundnet Germany mit der “Full Membership” den höchstmöglichen Mitgliedsstatus erhalten hat. Wir sind stolz, dass sich unsere und eure Arbeit für die Entwicklung unserer Sportart in den letzten Jahren weiterhin auszeichnet!
In den vergangen sechs Monaten haben wir einige kritische Nachfragen zur demokratischen Struktur in der IRF gestellt und in diversen Statements veröffentlicht. Wir sind froh, dass beim 1. Meeting aller NGB’s am 8. März viele wichtige Schritte seitens des IRF-Vorstands vorgestellt wurden, die in die richtige Richtung gehen, um jedem Roundnet-Land ein gleichberechtigtes Stimmrecht zu geben. Viele Nachfragen von Vertreter*innen aus der ganzen Welt haben die Notwendigkeit dieser Änderungen aufgezeigt und verdeutlicht, dass in einem Weltverband kein Weg an basisdemokratischer Mitbestimmung vorbei geht.
Trotz der vielen und guten Änderungsabsichten seitens des Vorstands in Richtung demokratischer Strukturen, konnte der Punkt der Unabhängigkeit innerhalb des aktuellen Vorstands zur Firma Spikeball Inc. aus unserer Sicht noch nicht ausreichend glaubhaft vermittelt werden. Eine detaillierte Erklärung der Risiken einer solchen Abhängigkeit (mindestens zwei aktuell Vorstandsmitglieder sind Angestellte der Firma Spikeball Inc.) findet ihr in unserem letzten Statement.
Laut eigener Aussage des IRF-Vorstands wurde von jede*m ein “Unabhängigkeitsschreiben” unterzeichnet, allerdings die bisherigen Kosten der IRF mit Hilfe einer Anschubfinanzierung/Spende von Spikeball Inc. gedeckt.
Auch wurden im Meeting innerhalb weniger Wochen Änderungen in der Satzung sowie die Besetzung der themenbezogenen Komitees angekündigt, was leider bisher noch nicht umgesetzt wurde. Wir sind gespannt auf die Informationen und freuen uns den Aufbau eines unabhängigen und demokratischen Weltverbands weiter begleiten zu können. Sobald die Strukturen der Mitgestaltungen über die Komitees geschaffen sind, werden wir gerne mit unseren großen Team die Gestaltung aktiv begleiten.
Auch trotz des Status “Full Membership” und über ein halbes Jahr nach der Ankündigung der IRF, werden wir Entwicklung weiter beobachten und notfalls kritisch hinterfragen. Wir freuen uns über jede Nation, die das sehr gute Vorhaben des Aufbaus der IRF unterstützt, aber gleichzeitig auch für demokratische Strukturen und Unabhängigkeit einsteht.
